Spring is Here!  Here's a Suggested Spring Cleaning Checklist

 Clean out that garage!!

  • Put things in their place that you didn't bother to do when it was cold out.
  • Bring out the yard decorations that you put away last winter.
  • Pull out anything you no longer use or want.  Plan a way to sell, give away or otherwise dispose of these items.
  • Consider combining with neighbors to have a garage sale.

Inspect the roof for missing or loose shingles or other damage needing repair.

Clean the gutters, downspouts and drainage pans of debris and dirt.

Power wash the outside of the house, and clean those windows.

Drain any sediment from the hot water heater.

Check those closets, rotating seasonal clothes and donating anything you no longer want or have not worn in the last two years.

To clean the walls throughout your home, here's an easy mixture using common household items:

  • 1/2 cup ammonia
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 gallon of warm water.

Wash windows on the inside, including screens, and vacuum out and/or wipe down the tracks.

Clean all window treatments, curtains, drapes, valances.  Put up fresh Spring-like fabrics if you change these with the seasons.

Clean all light fixtures and chandeliers.

 Clean off knickknacks.

 Vacuum books and bookshelves.

Vacuum lampshades and replace light bulbs as needed.

Deep clean shower, toilet, floor and sink.

Toss expired medications from the medicine cabinet.

Defrost freezer (if needed) and wash down shelving in the refrigerator.  Vacuum front coils.  Clean tops.

 Clean the oven and stove.

Launder all blankets and bedding, storing away heavier linens and replacing with lightweight ones.  It's a good idea to also turn mattresses.

Thoroughly vacuum around, under and behind furniture. Shampoo carpets.
